ABOUT PROJECT

Developer Infrastructure / API · Private Beta · 2026

A compatibility layer designed to let the API change without forcing every historical client to change with it.

API Continuity is a private-beta platform built to preserve historical API contracts while teams evolve a current backend. The product sits between legacy clients and the live implementation, compiling breaking changes into deterministic request, response and error transforms so the application only has to maintain the current API.

01
THE CHALLENGE

API evolution creates a hidden tax: every old client contract can become another implementation the team has to keep alive.

The product needed to make a fairly technical infrastructure idea understandable without flattening the engineering behind it. The core problem is contract drift: routes, payloads, errors and semantics change over time, while historical clients still expect the behaviour they integrated against.

02
THE RESPONSE

One current implementation, with historical contracts compiled around it.

The experience is organised around a simple model: diff a historical contract against the current API, compile deterministic compatibility transforms, protect risky behaviour, prove the result against fixtures, observe live traffic and retire old contracts when they are no longer needed. The interface keeps that system legible for engineering teams rather than hiding it behind vague automation language.

PROJECT SCOPE

A developer product spanning positioning, interaction design and the compatibility model itself.

01Product positioning
02Compatibility model UX
03Responsive product interface
04API contract workflow
05Private-beta experience
06Technical product storytelling

API Continuity is currently in private beta. The case study documents the product and interface work without linking to a public application or implying general availability.

RESULT

The private-beta product now has a clear visual and conceptual language around its central promise: change the API, keep historical clients working, and make every compatibility decision inspectable rather than magical.

PRODUCT / TECHNICAL SYSTEMS

Building a technical product that is difficult to explain without a diagram?

Kingdom can connect product strategy, interface design and technical storytelling so complex infrastructure feels understandable without being dumbed down.
